Abstract

This article explores the economic effects of implementing flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) and their impact on the competitiveness of companies. In the context of globalization and rapidly changing market demands, modern enterprises need to adapt to new conditions. The relevance of this topic is driven by the rapid development of technologies and the need to increase the efficiency and adaptability of manufacturing processes. The study used a combined approach, including both quantitative and qualitative methods. The main data were obtained through a survey of enterprises that have implemented FMS in their manufacturing processes. The analysis was conducted using statistical methods to identify correlations between the implementation of FMS and competitiveness indicators, as well as to determine the economic effects of implementation. At the qualitative level, expert interviews were conducted with managers of production and economic departments of companies. The results of the study showed that the implementation of flexible manufacturing systems significantly reduces production costs and increases the speed of adaptation to market changes. Companies using FMS demonstrated a significant increase in competitiveness due to improved product quality and reduced time costs in manufacturing processes. Additionally, the implementation of FMS positively influenced the companies' ability to quickly respond to changes in demand and offer more individualized products. The conclusions of the study confirm the hypothesis that the implementation of flexible manufacturing systems contributes to increased competitiveness of companies. However, to achieve maximum economic effects, a comprehensive approach is necessary, including not only technical equipment but also the modernization of organizational structure and management processes. It is important to note that successful implementation of FMS also requires significant investments and competent management for an effective transition. The implementation of flexible manufacturing systems represents a powerful tool for increasing economic efficiency and competitiveness of companies. Future research may focus on studying long-term effects and specific industry characteristics of FMS application.
