The study of the influence of literary works on the formation of folk customs and traditions

Abstract

Literary works have always played an important role in shaping public consciousness, culture, and the spiritual component of society. In various socio-cultural contexts, literature not only reflects existing customs and traditions, but also contributes to their creation or transformation. The present study is devoted to the study of the influence of literary works on the process of formation and evolution of folk customs and traditions. To achieve these goals, methods of comparative historical analysis, interpretation of texts from the point of view of ethnography and cultural studies, as well as content analysis of literary works of various eras were used. The research focused on works of written literature related to the traditional foundations of folk culture. In addition, a case study was used to analyze the impact of specific works on the cultural practices of various peoples. The analysis showed that literary works play three key roles in the formation of folk customs and traditions: They reinforce existing norms, propose new cultural patterns of behavior, and act as a memory preserver. For example, epics and legends not only transmitted moral values from generation to generation, but also formed patterns of behavior. Literary texts were also often used to create artistic forms, such as rituals, festivals, and symbolic gestures, which later became part of a national or ethnic identity. Thus, literature is an important driver of development and changes in the system of folk customs and traditions. It not only reflects the development of society, but also actively influences the formation of cultural norms and ethnic identity.
