Abstract

Internal control systems are crucial for the effectiveness of the enterprise and contribute to compliance with rules and regulations. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of internal control systems on the sustainable development of subsurface use enterprises. It is concluded that three dimensions of internal control systems have a significant impact on the sustainable development of an enterprise: control activity, control environment and risk assessment. However, the impact of monitoring controls on sustainable development was negligible. The results also show a negligible impact of information and communication on sustainable development. The results of the study can help decision makers and stakeholders in the adoption and implementation of a proactive internal control system at the enterprise.
