Abstract

The adaptation of students to the socio–cultural environment of the university is a complex and multifaceted process, especially in the context of learning in a foreign language. An important task is to create conditions conducive to successful adaptation, which involves both support in academic activities and assistance in mastering cultural norms and values. The article is devoted to the study of the conditions for the implementation of the support system for this process. To solve this problem, we used the analysis of literature on the problem of adaptation, questioning students, as well as monitoring their behavior in educational and extracurricular activities. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used. Students who study in a foreign language at national and international universities took part in the experiment. The analysis of the obtained data showed that the key factors of successful adaptation of students are systematic support at different stages of learning and integration of the socio-cultural environment into the educational process. The greatest difficulties arose for students for whom the foreign language of instruction was not the main one. An important factor was also the organization of extracurricular activities, which allowed students to immerse themselves more widely in the new culture and social life of the university. In the course of the study, recommendations were developed for the creation of an effective support system, including both educational, psychological and cultural aspects. The implementation of a system to support the adaptation process of students studying in a foreign language requires an integrated approach. The proposed recommendations will help higher education institutions to create favorable conditions for the successful integration of students into a new socio-cultural environment, reducing stress and adaptation difficulties.
