Features of the translation of newspaper and journalistic texts from English into Russian

Abstract

In the context of globalization and intercultural interaction, the relevance of translating newspaper and journalistic texts is constantly growing. The newspaper-journalistic style is distinguished not only by its informative content, but also by its expressiveness, which imposes certain requirements on translators. English and Russian have significant differences in structure, vocabulary, and means of expression, which necessitates research into the specifics of translation in this style. The study analyzed the specifics of newspaper and journalistic texts in both the source language (English) and the target language (Russian). Methods of comparative analysis, transformational analysis and analysis of translation strategies were used. The selection of the material was based on current texts from English and Russian-language publications. It is established that when translating newspaper and journalistic texts from English into Russian, the main problems are differences in syntactic constructions, the use of idioms and metaphors, as well as the transfer of emotional coloring. An important aspect is the need to adapt the content to the target audience, which may require rearranging the text or creating additional comments. The use of adequate translation transformations, such as rearrangement, simplification or addition, contributes to achieving high translation quality. Of particular importance is the preservation of semantic accuracy in the transmission of stylistic features. The study highlights that the translation of newspaper and journalistic texts requires great attention to linguistic, stylistic and cultural aspects. The results obtained can be useful for both professional translators and students in the field of translation. In the future, it is possible to expand the research topic by analyzing the specifics of translating texts from various types of publications (economic, scientific, entertainment).
